Decisions, Decisions

We went rug shopping this morning. Below are the top contenders. Mike and I each have our favorites but we are not saying for fear of influencing the populus. The fabric swatch in each photo is from the couch.

Feel free to chime in here ...

Contender A: Code Name "Swirls"
Contender B: Code Name "Plain Vanilla"Contender C: Code Name "Stripy Boxes"

Contender D: Code Name "Big Brown"

I vote for Swirls, especially if you are keeping the walls plain and a solid color. It's like a big abstract painting on the floor. (And it looks like it will hide dirt!)

Either B or D. I'm not sure...

I like the others but ..

i'm well known as plain jane. ;)

C, definitely C.
A, Swirls is too busy, and fights with the sofa.
B is nice, but might be too plain. (Unless it's really cheap, under $100, get it to get you through the winter.)
C, is perfect, and also mimics the parquet floor in a semi-neutral way.
D, no. Just no.
Glad to see you're out there looking.

C

Not only do I agree with Dave, but I think C also offers a nice contrast from the roundness of the sofa fabric design. You don't want a rug to be the center piece of the room, but rather have it be another part of what makes the entire room work.

I do get a vote, right?

I love Swirls...and I like the way it works with the swirls in the sofa. If your room needs a focal point, it would be great.
But, if you don't want the rug to be a focus of the room...
Stripey boxes.
Plain Vanilla ... no way.
and brown? unless you've got a serious dirt issue, then just .. no

I think I like Stripy Boxes best. It's not competing with the sofa fabric or with all the interest in the bookcases or on the walls, yet it has some interesting texture and a nice color. There's a lot happening in this room and I think this rug would ground it nicely without being boring. Heh...I really liked oatmeal too but think it would be horrid to keep clean. Every little scrap of fiber would show up immediately.

A absolutely. D is a distant 2nd in my book. (Consider that this comment is from someone who believes red is a basic color! I cannot live without a good jolt of color.)

I'm impressed with all the work!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I vote for D, with B second. I think the ones with more pattern to them are going to fight with the pattern on the sofa.

B or C. A is too busy.

Nice work!

I like the Stripy Boxes. There's a pattern, but it's not so busy that it dominates.

I'm going to have to add my "C" vote. Although "A" is fun, I agree that it can be way too busy with the couch and all those swirls might make you dizzy after a while. "B" is nice, but not exciting. "C" gives you a little "flavor" without "too much" competition between couch and floor.

Yay! to a new rug!!
