Yes, the Sheep Meadow in Central Park was once used for grazing sheep. Now, however, it is used for quiet recreation such as picnics and gentle games of catch, frisbee, etc. One group even brought their own cornhole set up.
We headed out with neighbors and feasted on pasta salad and cranberry muffins. Balls and disks were tossed around, ice cream was eaten (an smeared over small faces) and a good time was had by all.For your pleasure, the southern view from the middle of the Sheep Meadow.Happy 4th!

Sounds like a wonderful day! Did the small faces get washed off or were they sticky all day long? *L*
It's hard to remember that New York wasn't always such a big real city. Thank you for the reminder and the photos.
Beautiful pictures. I especially like the photos with the reflection.
Have you read The Island at the Center of the World? It is hard to imagine the wilderness that was once New York.
Hahahaha. I thought "cornhole" was a solely Midwestern phenomenon.
(I never knew the name until this summer, when Midwest Living had a story on fun summer games and mentioned it. Cornhole used to be big with the fraternities and sororites when I was at ISU...I think it's because it's a game you can play with a drink in your hand.
[I had a friend there who loved bocce ball; she said she liked any sport you could play with a drink in your hand.])
Looks like a lovely day! (Is that a Wes hat one of your little squids is wearing?)
Looks like y'all had a great summer day on the park.. :D
Yeah I'm curious with Cookie, did they get washed or suffer sticky face all day? *L*
*HUGS*
What a wonderful day you all had together...the simple pleasures are the best. :)
A great day and I love the new banner! Nice to see such happy kids.
It's nice to know that New York had simpler times like sheep grazing in Central Park. Interesting facts.
